It was in the discreet intimacy of our Maison, founded in Paris in 1919, that we rediscovered, one autumn morning, a forgotten illustration. A small treasure tucked between two old sheets of paper, undated and unsigned, like an enigma from the past. The image of a Christmas from long ago, delicately old-fashioned, like a postcard from the heart, a precious moment that time had weathered but never erased.
This discovery brought back the spirit of bygone holidays. The spirit of winters blanketed in a veil of frost, where windows fogged up while we waited for snow, drawing with our fingertips. The spirit of candlelit evenings, golden stars adorning the walls, the laughter of bundled-up children, shortbread cookies presented on ribbons, and hot tea filling the house with the aromas of cinnamon and orange.
From this emotion was bornour Christmas collection….
Betjeman and Barton brings magic to your fingertips, with asurprise boxInspired by the old-fashioned cones hung on the Christmas tree, filled with unexpected treasures, its colors—a deep green, a powdery pink, soft golds—evoke tenderly crumpled wrapping paper, wooden toys, and grandmother's decorations carefully brought out each year. Two illustrations that offer a poetic journey into an almost Victorian world…
In the first illustration, we see a beautifully decorated fir tree nestled in an antique teapot, a delicate nod to our world of tea. Around it gravitate dreamy cherubs, protective birds, and an angel in the gentle embrace of an eternal winter. For attentive eyes, surprises gradually unfold.small details...
WhileTwo birds, wings outstretched, suspend a heart embroidered with gold thread, attached to a safety pin. A child in formal attire leads his alicorn, harnessed to a carriage where a cup and its golden spoon rest, ready to receive a generous and spiced Christmas tea… Have you noticed, on the other side, a pair of children, their cheeks rosy from the cold, huddled under a lamppost from which hang two antique baubles, one of which whispers “LOVE” in gold letters? A bright-eyed angel watches over them, its wings adorned with a ribbon dancing in the wind.
The second design, reminiscent of an antique engraving, embodies the timeless magic of Christmas, elegantly distilling the art of tea since 1919. At the heart of this composition, a bouquet of English roses unfolds its beauty, a symbol of our refined floral blends. Two children seem ready to share a convivial moment, as if invited to a comforting tea party… Needless to say, they will enjoy the tea contained in the House's famous domed tin, because "A cup of tea is always a good idea"… This image, full of charm and gentleness, transports us to a world where every detail tells a story of tradition, love, and sharing over a cup of tea.
At Betjeman & Barton, every detail is an infusion of memories, a poem, a scent of childhood. Christmas, here, is a cup full of soul and wonder.
