Green teas
Green tea: frequently asked questions
1. Which green tea should I choose if I don't like bitterness?
Choose a mild and mellow green tea: a Genmaicha with its toasted rice notes, or one of our fruit-scented green teas, which have a rounder flavor in the cup. Using water at the right temperature will do the rest.
2. Is it better to choose Chinese or Japanese green tea depending on the taste I'm looking for?
Chinese green teas offer mild, vegetal, and lightly toasted cups, while those from Japan are distinguished by more pronounced iodized and umami notes. Depending on whether you are looking for roundness or vegetal freshness, either one will delight you.
3. Which plain or scented green tea should I start with for a gentle introduction?
For a first experience, a fruit-scented green tea, such as Malesherbes or Comme une étoile, is very easy to enjoy. Those who prefer purer cups should head toward a plain green tea from China or Japan.
4. At what temperature should I brew green tea to keep it from becoming bitter?
Green tea prefers simmering water, never boiling: aim for 70 to 80°C depending on the harvest, and steep for 2 to 3 minutes. Water that is too hot is the primary cause of bitterness.
5. How long does green tea stay fresh and why should it be consumed faster than black tea?
Being lightly oxidized, green tea is more delicate: it is best enjoyed within twelve to eighteen months to benefit from all its freshness, whereas black tea can be kept for several years. Store it away from air and light.
6. Does green tea contain a lot of caffeine? Can I drink it in the afternoon?
Green tea generally offers a lighter cup than black tea; it is well-suited for the afternoon. A short infusion and tempered water will further soften its character.
7. Can green tea leaves be infused multiple times?
Yes, whole-leaf green tea is suitable for a second or even a third infusion, by slightly increasing the time for each subsequent steep. Each cup reveals a different facet.
8. Do you offer your green teas in sachets?
Yes, a selection of our green teas is available in sachets, combining simplicity and quality for everyday enjoyment.
