- Green tea flavoured with vanilla -

This green tea from China is flavoured with essential oils of vanilla, and strewn with vanilla pods and petals of marigold flowers. Tesoro, the little treasure of Betjeman and Barton....

  • Vanilla

A treasure brought back from Italy
Tesoro… “treasure”: that’s how people address each other in Florence or Naples, in the fragrant alleyways lined with lemon trees or on a sun-drenched terrace. The idea for this tea was born from a journey to the heart of Italy, between the markets of Sicily and the cafés of Rome. There, this word comes up often, slipped tenderly into the simplest conversations. It says it all: warmth, generosity, a quiet yet complete love.

This is the feeling we wanted to capture in a cup. The vegetal freshness of Sencha meets the sensuality of vanilla. Deep yellow marigold petals complete this picture, evoking summer fields or the gilded paper of Neapolitan pastries.

Vanilla, a rare choice among green teas
At Betjeman and Barton, vanilla is a precious note, readily associated with the warmth of black teas, whose tannic structure highlights its roundness and depth. In the more vegetal world of green teas, its presence is more discreet, almost unexpected. It sometimes appears alongside fruit, as in our Courtisanes blend, or in our green Christmas tea, where it adds a tender touch to a blend of citrus and spices. But with Tesoro, vanilla expresses itself fully on a green base, in all its simplicity. Without fruit to accompany it, it reveals a lighter, almost ethereal facet, echoing the freshness of the Sencha. A delicate rarity, conceived as a setting for this noble and radiant aroma.

Tea and food pairing
Ideal for afternoon tea or a quiet moment of respite, this tea pairs beautifully with panettone, a creamy canelé, or an orange ciambellone. It can also be enjoyed iced, cold-brewed with a few strips of sweet orange zest, for an elegantly refreshing treat. A tea like a tender word, to be enjoyed throughout the day, for yourself, or for those you love to call tesoro.

Recipe: Iced Tesoro tea latte with almond milk

Ingredients (for 1 glass):
• 10 cl of concentrated Tesoro infusion (infused at 80°C for 10 minutes, then cooled)
• 15 cl of unsweetened almond milk (or oat milk)
• A few ice cubes
• Optional: ½ teaspoon of agave syrup or a dash of liquid vanilla

Preparation :
1. Brew the tea while hot, then let it cool completely.
2. In a shaker or a tall glass, pour the infusion and the plant-based milk.
3. Add the ice cubes, shake or stir vigorously.
4. Sweeten lightly if desired.
5. Serve in a tall glass, decorated with a sprig of lavender or an orange zest.
