This name that whispers Italy
The name Bergamo was not chosen at random. While the exact origin of bergamot remains shrouded in mystery, its name has always evoked the Lombard city of Bergamo, perched between sky and hills in northern Italy.
It was from here, according to some sources, that bergamot oil was marketed in Europe as early as the 17th century. Other, more oriental accounts suggest that it crossed the Mediterranean from Andalusian gardens or Anatolian markets, before flourishing in Calabria, where cultivation is at its highest quality.
In any case, Bergamo remains a legendary name: it evokes the Italy of noble terraced gardens, scented fans, and elite perfumers. A name that evokes refinement, clarity, and that touch of mystery unique to rare things.
A tea of today, inspired by yesterday
With Bergamo, we rediscover the spirit of an Earl Grey... but in a lighter, more modern robe.
• In London, it could be served in a light-filled glass roof in the heart of a hotel in the Belgravia district;
• In Florence, in a shady palace, accompanied by a Panforte;
• In Paris, in a refined lounge, with a citrus Saint-Honoré or an Opera.
