- Black tea flavoured with citrus fruits -
It's on a basis of China and Ceylon teas that has been imagined Pouchkine tea. And that's the only thing we can tell about this tea! Its composition has been kept a secret for 40 years... It tastes like Russia and its story is romantic: the great Pouchkine would not have denied it, but the only way to know more about this tea is to taste it. A Betjeman and Barton signature.
- Bergamot and citrus
A well-kept secret for decades
Among our Maison's most iconic recipes, Pouchkine has for over forty years perpetuated the understated elegance, refined refinement, and distinctly Parisian sophistication that characterize our finest creations. This recipe, with its citrus notes and elusive touch, is jealously guarded. A Russian taste that has become a cult... French style.
A tea that speaks Russian… in French
It all begins in a discreet salon in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. There, around a hammered copper samovar, Lyosha, heir to an aristocratic Russian lineage exiled since the 1930s, shares with Didier, one of the leaders of our House, the vibrant memories of his Moscow youth. Tea, of course, enters the conversation. “We always had it with lemon, sometimes orange marmalade… it softened its strength,” he recalls nostalgically. In Didier’s mind, the idea of a Russian tea with a Parisian soul begins to infuse. He sees citrus, power, a barely veiled elegance. Thus, Pushkin is born: a Slavic-inspired tea, but imagined in Paris, shrouded in mystery and memory. And the exact recipe? It remains one of the House’s best-kept secrets; and the favorite topic of salon conversation for four decades…
A fragrant tribute to a prince of letters
The name was a natural choice. The creator of this tea had a deep admiration for Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin: a prince of poets, a child of Romanticism, and a lover of the French language. Like its illustrious namesake, this tea cultivates contrasts: rigor and tenderness, the brightness of zest and the shadow of black tea, ardor and restraint. It embodies both quiet strength and flamboyant delicacy. A tribute infused with literature, history, and emotion.
Tea and food pairing
Pushkin black tea reveals its full richness when paired with delicacies with delicate textures and balanced flavors. It pairs perfectly with a slice of black bread topped with full-bodied honey, whose intense sweetness complements the tea's woody depth. A light pavlova with citrus zest brings freshness and lightness, while a moist candied orange cake offers a melting and subtly tangy combination. These pairings highlight the tea's aromatic complexity, enhancing each tasting.
Recipes and cocktails using Pushkin black tea
As night falls, Pushkin invites creativity and conviviality. It lends itself to the most elegant twists, like this refined cocktail that blends a dash of Pushkin tea syrup, the purity of dry gin, the tangy freshness of a hint of lime, and the sparkling lightness of a cloud of sparkling water. Served in a slender glass, this creation embodies the art of living between Slavic tradition and Parisian elegance, offering an exceptional moment where bubbles and aromas delicately complement each other.
