Mint Green Tea - The essence of freshness
Among the most consumed teas in the world, mint tea occupies a special place. A symbol of hospitality, sharing, and freshness, it spans cultures and eras. But behind this apparent simplicity lies a delicate art, which Betjeman & Barton wished to honor with precision.
It all starts with aGunpowder green tea, carefully selected for its infusion strength and its vegetal liveliness. Native to China, its rolled leaves release a frank, structured, intense green liquor, which prepares the palate for the aromatic flight.
Then comes theNanah mint, jewel of Morocco. Hand-picked under the sun of the mountainous regions, it unfurls its large, velvety leaves, full of essential oils. Neither spicy nor too green, it offers a round and deep, almost sweet tone that makes all the difference: a delicate, almost mellow fragrance, without any aggressiveness, the authentic taste of traditional mint tea.
The Quest for Real Moroccan Mint
Mint tea has long inhabited our sensory memory. It evokes chiseled glasses, melting sugar loaf, the rustling of leaves on patios, cool shade, and slow movements. Yet, finding the mint capable of accurately evoking this memory was a true quest.
We tasted dozens of varieties, seeking to rediscover that soft, almost shimmering freshness that makes great Moroccan teapots so charming. And it was in Morocco, of course, that we found our ideal leaf: Nanah mint, grown on human-scale farms using environmentally friendly practices.
Simply unique
It is in the region ofTadla-Azilal, between the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and the fertile plains of central Morocco, that we discovered the most beautiful mint leaves. There, the mineral-rich soils and cool nights promote optimal concentration of essential oils. The plants are grown on hillsides, sheltered from drying winds, and harvested only when the plant reaches its aromatic peak.
Handpicked in the early morning, when the leaves are still drenched in dew, then slowly dried in the shade using a traditional method passed down from generation to generation, this mint retains its crystalline fragrance and intense green color. It doesn't dominate, it harmonizes. It gives our blend all its nobility and sweetness. An exceptional mint, worthy of hospitality tea.
